Aux pieds de l’aqueduc d’Arcueil, sous une couche de goudron, coule une rivière enterrée : la Bièvre. Le projet, implanté sur l’historique « Fief des arcs » à Cachan, explore les enjeux mémoriels que soulèvent aujourd’hui les réouvertures de ce cours d’eau en milieu suburbain. Anciennement occupé par un domaine de chasse aux peupliers élancés, puis par un hospice et son jardin à la française, le site accueille depuis les années 80 un vaste EHPAD qui est aujourd’hui partiellement inoccupé.
L’enchevêtrement des mémoires, la subsistance du végétal y témoignent de relations situées au vivant et à l’oubli. Tisser un nouveau lien entre ce site et la rivière souterraine est alors l’occasion de porter un regard contemporain sur le vivant qui habite ses berges d’antan et de se pencher sur le vieillissement des paysages de la vallée de la Bièvre. C’est en outre, l’exploration d’un paysage foisonnant de racines et de stolons qui ne sont en rien des corps inertes, au potentiel fini.
At the foot of the Arcueil aqueduct, beneath a layer of tar, flows a buried river: the Bièvre. The project, located on the historic “Fief des arcs” in Cachan, explores the memorial issues raised today by the reopening of this river in a suburban environment. Formerly occupied by a hunting estate with slender poplars, then by a hospice and its formal garden, the site has been home to a vast EHPAD since the 1980s, and is now partially unoccupied. The intertwining of memories and the sustenance of vegetation bear witness to the relationship between the living and the forgotten. Weaving a new link between this site and the underground river is an opportunity to take a contemporary look at the living world that inhabits its former banks, and to reflect on the ageing of the Bièvre Valley landscape. It’s also an opportunity to explore a landscape teeming with roots and rhizomes, which are by no means inert bodies with finite potential.
