L’hospitalité en chantier dans un territoire insulaire fragile

À l’intérieur des terres de l’île Maurice, Lakaz Mouvman naît d’un questionnement fondamental : comment habiter le monde sans le figer, en prenant soin des lieux que l’on transforme ?
Face à l’épuisement des modèles touristiques dominants, le projet explore la possibilité d’un autre rapport au territoire : réversible, responsable, enraciné. Il propose des formes d’hospitalité démontables, réplicables et à faible impact, capables de s’insérer dans des sites sensibles sans les contraindre.
En s’appuyant sur les ressources locales — pierre volcanique, bambou, bois, fibres végétales — et sur un principe de chantier-école, il engage les habitants, artisans et visiteurs dans un processus collectif de fabrication.
Pensé comme un levier de sensibilisation et d’expérimentation, Lakaz Mouvman cherche à faire du tourisme une opportunité de transition : pour les propriétaires fonciers, les investisseurs, les visiteurs eux-mêmes, appelés à découvrir la fragilité, la richesse, et les potentialités d’un territoire encore largement méconnu.
From inland Mauritius, Lakaz Mouvman was born of a fundamental question: how can we inhabit the world without freezing it, taking care of the places we transform?
In response to the limitations of the dominant tourism models, the project explores the possibility of a different relationship with the territory: reversible, responsible and rooted. We propose low-impact forms of hospitality that can be disassembled and reproduced, and that are capable of fitting into sensitive sites without constraining them.
Relying on local resources – volcanic stone, bamboo, wood, plant fibers – and on a site building-workshop principle, it involves farmers, craftsmen and visitors in a collective building process.
Lakaz Mouvman is designed as a lever for awareness-raising and experimentation, and seeks to turn tourism into an opportunity for transition: for landowners, investors and visitors themselves, who are called upon to discover the fragility, richness and potential of a territory that is still largely unknown.
