While walking along the riverside of the Rance, a stream taking its source from Le Mené (22) in britanny and plunging into the Manche Sea between Dinard and Saint-Malo, we’ve found a troubled land. Troubled by the marriage between land and water.
Here in north Britanny, the tidal ranges are wide, they cover then uncover, tie then untie, blur then reveal. The installation of a tidalpowered plant in 1966, exploiting the landscape, has then created a phenomenon of over-sedimentation, a muddy trouble. The Rance estuary is clogging itself from the upstream riversides, and contributes, downstream, to the infrastructure’s obsolescence.
This project offers to reconcile the organic and the unorganic, the living beings and the machinery of the infrastructure, while anchoring in the moving landscape.
– The dam that has created its own trouble must now live “with” it, coexist, in a thick present. –
The graft of an experimental observatory of this moving landscape onto the “body” of the infrastructure and of the estuary, would make possible the feeling of “being at one” with the landscape, to weave new ties between Humanity, Machines and the Living.
